Pupils from Southwold School in Nottingham celebrated Refugee Week this year with a poetry workshop from local poet Manjit Sahota on the this year’s theme ‘Our Home’. The pupils listened then wrote poems and read them to their peers. They all enjoyed the workshop.
The pupils also had a visit from students from the Nottingham Education Sanctuary Team (NEST). NEST is a specialist education facility for newly arrived asylum seekers and refugees who have little or no English and often no literacy in their own language. The pupils loved talking to the students, often in their own language, about their homes, culture and food and, of course, sport.
