The Nottingham Emmanuel School receives School of Sanctuary award

The Nottingham Emmanuel School invited Nottingham City of Sanctuary to their carol concert where Jane presented the School of Sanctuary award to a group of pupils from the schools excellent singing group in the presence of staff, pupils and parents.  In fact, the whole joyful carol service seemed to be as much a celebration of becoming a school of sanctuary as it was a celebration of Christmas.

All the Nottingham secondary schools in the Archway Learning Trust have now been presented with this award and they are all extremely proud of their achievements but also see it as a stepping stone to further developments in welcoming students fleeing war or persecution.  Pupils at the school are confident and proud of the measures within the school to welcome them, whatever their background and are aware what sanctuary means and how the school will support pupils seeking sanctuary. They also understand the importance of diversity, which they see as a particular strength of the school and celebrate by sharing each other’s culture.
