Nottingham City of Sanctuary network teamed up with Nottingham Citizens on Wednesday to hand over an open letter to Councillor Sajid Mohammed who is portfolio holder for communities in the City Council.  Nottingham City of Sanctuary has been having a few preliminary meetings with Councillors to discuss the prospect of the Council adopting a motion at full Council meeting to work towards becoming a City of Sanctuary.  The open letter was presented to Cllr Mohammed by Cllr Faith Gakanje, the newly elected member for Bilborough.  Faith is a refugee herself and knows how important it is to be welcomed into a new place when you are fleeing persecution.  She is determined to push this forward and work with the Nottingham City of Sanctuary network and Nottingham Citizens to make it happen.  Also present was Cllr Steve Battlemuch who has signed the online pledge of support for City of Sanctuary.  The open letter was jointly signed by Nottingham City of Sanctuary and Nottingham Citizens and contained the logos of a number of organisations and groups that support the movement for Nottingham becoming a City of Sanctuary.  Cllr Mohammed has agreed to hold further meetings with both organisations and other relevant partners within the next four weeks.  In the photo you can see Cora Lindsay from Nottingham City of Sanctuary network presenting the letter to Cllr Mohammed.
