A group of Afghan asylum seekers from across Nottingham spent a couple of enjoyable days at Trent Bridge, the home of Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. The club very kindly donated a number of tickets for the first two days for the county match against Warwickshire in the week before Refugee Week. They all thoroughly enjoyed the match and were very knowledgeable about cricket but the highlight, which Nottingham City of Sanctuary didn’t know about, was that Pakistan international Hassan Ali plays cricket for Warwickshire. He was spotted on the first day by pupils from NEST and he very kindly agreed to pose for some selfies with the students and the next day, even though he was in the field, he again gave his time to have his photo taken with some young men seeking sanctuary in the UK.
Nottingham City of Sanctuary would like to thank Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club for their generosity, all the friendly staff at the ground and Diana Pleasey who is on the committee of Notts CCC.
