Nottingham University signs City of Sanctuary and STAR pledge

November 26th was world access to higher education day 2019.  Over 30 UK universities have pledged support for refugee access to higher education in response to a joint call by Student Action for Refugees and City of Sanctuary to work towards the UNHCR goal of 15% of refugees in higher education by 2030.

In the UK there are over 70 universities that have programmes of scholarship and bursaries to help refugees and asylum seekers study and 14 of them are Universities of Sanctuary.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham University, Professor Shearer West has signed the pledge on behalf of the University.  Nottingham City of Sanctuary acknowledge Professor West signing the pledge and hope that this will lead to Nottingham University becoming a University of Sanctuary in the near future.
